Safe Stretching
Safe Stretching
Stretching is a vital part of effective exercise. Not stretching leads to pulled muscles and torn ligaments. Some stretch too far and suffer injury as well. If you’re going to exercise, you need to stretch all your muscles safely.
While all relationships will stretch you, relating to those with different ideas or backgrounds may stretch you the most. Don’t imagine for a second that they have nothing to teach you. The first lesson is swallowing your pride so you can reach out to those different from you.
But just as your muscles are designed to tolerate only a certain range of motion, the same applies to your ideas and lifestyle. Reach out to strangers with love and acceptance, but also set boundaries for how far you’re willing to go.
Stretching will give you more strength, flexibility, and energy in your relationships. Safe stretching will safeguard your health and wholeness to exercise what matters.
“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” —Matthew 10:16
