Questions And Answers

Questions and Answers

There are two types of people when you’re out to eat: those who dominate the conversation and those who speak only when spoken to. Well really, there’s a third, which is who you want to be: the person who is about questions and answers.

At a restaurant—or anywhere for that matter—show others their importance by treating them like the subject of an important news story. Rather than just talking about yourself or waiting for them to engage you, take the initiative and start asking questions.

Questions like, “So what’s new in your world?” Or, “Tell me about the family. Any updates on the kids?” And then when they speak, listen to their answers. Their answers will probably inspire more questions, and voila! You’ve just whipped up some presence.

If you’re new to this kind of thing, remember: most people love to talk about themselves. Your job is to just get them started.

Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. —James 1:19
