Preserving Your Freedom
Preserving Your Freedom
Turn on cable news these days and very often you’ll hear debates about preserving our freedoms. These debates are warranted. History shows that when we take a passive stance toward freedom, someone almost always comes to take it away.
Once you start walking in God’s freedom, you must also take similar precautions. When you’re freed of anything, it’s easy to let down your guard. You’re so happy to be liberated from what held you that you’re ready to take a nice quiet vacation.
But the tyrant who would enslave you once again is waiting for that opening, and he will pounce when you’re not aware. So take him seriously. The tyrant is your old life of selfishness and sin.
Live joyfully in the freedom God gives you, but always keep one eye open for the enemy. Don’t give him an inch of territory as you preserve the freedom that matters.
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
—Galatians 5:1
