Freedom For . . .

Freedom For . . .

Most people want to be free from something, like an unhealthy relationship or a destructive habit.

But usually what enslaved you was an unmet need: a woman desires love but suffers one abusive relationship after another; a man wants freedom from pain but goes from one addiction to another. Being free from bondage for a time doesn’t fill the vacuum of underlying need.

So the second phase of freedom, which actually finishes the job, is to be free for something else—the thing that actually meets the need you’ve been searching for.

The woman must know she’s worthy of God’s love and then use that freedom to find a man who loves her like God does. The man needs to discover the freedom of God’s peace and pursue genuine and lasting healing from his pain.

Once you’re free from what’s destroying you, you must live for what gives you life or you’ll never truly be free.

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. —Galatians 5:13
