Peace with Others

They looked so happy. I can’t believe they’re getting a divorce.

Have you ever heard this? A couple is married, sometimes for decades, and it seems like the perfect marriage. And then, without notice, it ends. What happened?

Many marriages that look perfectly peaceful still end in divorce. Very often, the couple lived in a false peace and never sought to work through the conflict that lay beneath the surface.

One thing builds on another. Peace with God. Peace with yourself. Peace with others.

A marriage, or any relationship, will only prosper if the two parties see conflict as an opportunity to admit their weaknesses, to surrender to God, and to allow Him to make them whole.

Only people who are in the process of being made whole will have the strength to love another person over the long term despite their weaknesses.

To fight for unity and peace.

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. —Ephesians 4:2–3
