Hope For A New Start
Hope for a New Start
Everyone likes the idea of a do-over. Perhaps that’s why reincarnation is such an attractive belief. When we look at all the wrong in the world—some of it caused by us—it’s a relief to think that we could get another chance to start over again after we die.
But the Bible makes it clear that this life is our only earthly shot. That certainly ups the ante. Still, this life is jam-packed with do-overs if you’re willing to take advantage of them.
Do-overs with God are available through His mercy. He doesn’t have to let us off the hook, but He does. If we have no hope for God’s mercy, we’ll never forgive ourselves, and we’ll certainly never forgive others.
But we still mess up. Others still hurt us. And so the mercy cycle must continue. We can rest in the hope that through the work of God’s Son, everyone who wants it will have an eternal do-over, a new start that will last forever.
“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”
—Matthew 5:7
