Gold-plated Gold

Gold-Plated Gold

Some people enjoy wearing costume jewelry. It’s inexpensive and it looks like the real thing. A gold-plated necklace to the casual observer looks like a necklace of the purest gold.

When it comes to character, we can look like costume jewelry. We may be tarnished brass on the inside, but what others see has the appearance of gold. There are parts of our character where we put on a costume to look honorable, but it’s not who we really are.

Allow God to change these areas, and you’ll notice a difference. The gold won’t be just on the outside but will show up on the inside too. You won’t have the appearance of honor. You will actually think and act honorably.

Your character will finally match the priceless value God has seen in you all along. You’ll be a bit of pure gold, and the costumes you wear will no longer be necessary.

A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble. —Charles Spurgeon
