John 9 - NIV God’s Justice Bible

9:2–5 How to View Suffering Is sickness or calamity a sign of God’s punishment? Today some people share the perspective voiced by the disciples: the man’s disability is a sure sign of God’s displeasure. Jesus presents an alternative reading: the disability may be the stage where God reveals his glory.
9:13–41 Judged by the Blind While Jesus challenges prejudice against the man born with a disability, the religious guardians of the community refuse to see and celebrate God’s goodness when he is healed, because Jesus’ actions do not square with their tradition. Obsessed with passing judgment on Jesus, his judges remain in darkness and guilt. The blind man sees beyond the healing—and believes in Jesus. None is so blind as the person who refuses to see.
