Does faith in God guarantee that I will be a winner?

1 Corinthians 1:26-31Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God. God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.”

As believers in God, we may never be winners by the world’s standards, but we will win the battle of life in God’s eyes and be rewarded a wonderful and eternal home.

Joshua 1:9“Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

2 Chronicles 20:15-17He said, “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow, march out against them. . . . But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!”

We often feel that life is a battle and that we are on the losing side. Life can be discouraging. When we are tired or when the obstacles seem too big, it is easy to feel down. Remember that when we have God’s Spirit within us, we are tapped into God’s almighty power. We don’t have to win every battle on our own—God doesn’t even want us to. When we ask for his help in our struggles, God will fight for us.
