How can I make peace with others? - Unity - TouchPoints
Psalm 64:3They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows.
Romans 12:17-18Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.
Ephesians 4:3Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.
Too often we react to differences of opinion by using our tongue like a sword. Angry debates, insults, accusations, verbal manipulation, and character assassination are some of the ways we try to win our arguments. But the victory isn’t worth it; actually, it’s really not about gaining a victory. Too many people are wounded, too many relationships destroyed. Constructive disagreements are essential to deep relationships, but conflict that divides God’s people breaks God’s heart. Such conflict misdirects energy that should be spent on discipleship, evangelism, worship, and missions. It also sabotages our witness to the world. We should express our opinions in ways that honor and serve people different from us.
