Why should I give thanks to God?
1 Chronicles 16:34Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.
We can give thanks to God because he is always good, and he will always love us no matter what we have done. Thanking God for his character helps us more fully appreciate and respect those qualities in him and in others.
Genesis 1:31Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day.
Psalm 19:1The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.
We should thank God because he is the creator of every good and beautiful thing in creation.
John 11:41-43So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, thank you for hearing me. You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.” Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!”
Philippians 4:6Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
We can thank God because he hears and answers prayer. Thankfulness doesn’t have to wait until after a prayer is answered. Jesus thanked his Father for hearing his prayer even before Lazarus was raised from the dead. Faith and thankfulness go hand-in-hand in prayer.
Habakkuk 3:17-19Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights.
We should give thanks to God because a spirit of gratitude and praise improves our perspective on life. Complaining connects us to our unhappiness; gratitude and praise connect us to the source of real joy. When we make thanksgiving a regular part of our lives, we stay focused on all God has done and continues to do for us.
1 Chronicles 16:8Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.
Psalm 111:1-2Praise the Lord! I will thank the Lord with all my heart as I meet with his godly people. How amazing are the deeds of the Lord! All who delight in him should ponder them.
We should thank God as a way to honor him around others and invite them into relationship with him.
