How do I tap into God’s strength to fight the battles of life?

Psalm 138:3As soon as I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me strength.

Nehemiah 6:9They were just trying to intimidate us, imagining that they could discourage us and stop the work. So I continued the work with even greater determination.

Matthew 26:41“Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!”

Acts 4:23-24When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God.

1 Corinthians 10:12-13If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

1 Corinthians 16:13Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.

Ephesians 6:10-16Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.

1 Peter 5:8-9Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.

Spiritual battles must be fought with spiritual weapons. We must pray for God to arm us and prepare us for battle.

Joshua 1:6-9“Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

1 Timothy 1:18-19Timothy, my son, here are my instructions for you, based on the prophetic words spoken about you earlier. May they help you fight well in the Lord’s battles. Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked.

1 John 2:14I have written to you who are God’s children because you know the Father. I have written to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning. I have written to you who are young in the faith because you are strong. God’s word lives in your hearts, and you have won your battle with the evil one.

1 John 5:3-5Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

God’s Word is our secret weapon in fighting the battles of life because in it we find the battle strategy as outlined by God Almighty himself. God, the Creator of life, tells us how to live life to the fullest. But if we don’t study God’s Word, we will miss the strategies that can help us overcome anything life throws at us.

Jeremiah 1:17-19“Get up and prepare for action. Go out and tell them everything I tell you to say. Do not be afraid of them, or I will make you look foolish in front of them. For see, today I have made you strong like a fortified city that cannot be captured, like an iron pillar or a bronze wall. You will stand against the whole land—the kings, officials, priests, and people of Judah. They will fight you, but they will fail. For I am with you, and I will take care of you. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

1 Timothy 6:12Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.

2 Timothy 4:7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.

We must always keep our eyes on the end goal, which is eternity with God. In this life we will face struggles, hardships, and spiritual battles. But if we make each decision as if we are investing in eternity, our lives will make sense and have purpose and direction.

Joshua 1:9“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Psalm 23:1-3The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

Isaiah 43:2When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.

1 Corinthians 1:8-9He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns. God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ephesians 3:16I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.

Philippians 4:13I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

2 Thessalonians 3:3The Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.

2 Timothy 4:16-18The Lord stood with me and gave me strength so that I might preach the Good News in its entirety for all the Gentiles to hear. And he rescued me from certain death. Yes, and the Lord will deliver me from every evil attack and will bring me safely into his heavenly Kingdom.

James 4:6-7He gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

We must never underestimate the strength that God wants to provide, if we just ask him for help. If we claim God’s promises, walk in his presence, and accept his protection, we will be strong enough to face any foe.

Isaiah 41:6The idol makers encourage one another, saying to each other, “Be strong!”

Acts 15:32-33Then Judas and Silas, both being prophets, spoke at length to the believers, encouraging and strengthening their faith.

Acts 16:5So the churches were strengthened in their faith and grew larger every day.

Romans 1:9-11I long to visit you so I can bring you some spiritual gift that will help you grow strong in the Lord.

Philippians 1:27-28Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News. Don’t be intimidated in any way by your enemies.

1 Thessalonians 3:1-4We sent Timothy to visit you . . . to strengthen you, to encourage you in your faith, and to keep you from being shaken by the troubles you were going through. But you know that we are destined for such troubles. Even while we were with you, we warned you that troubles would soon come—and they did, as you well know.

We need to stand together with other Christians. We must be willing to minister and to be ministered to. Wars are not fought with a single soldier.
