What causes spiritual dryness?
Proverbs 29:7The godly care about the rights of the poor; the wicked don’t care at all.
Ephesians 4:19They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.
Sinful living causes spiritual dryness.
Deuteronomy 6:11-12“When you have eaten your fill in this land, be careful not to forget the Lord, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt.”
Nehemiah 9:28“But as soon as they were at peace, your people again committed evil in your sight, and once more you let their enemies conquer them.”
Success followed by ungratefulness and complacency can lead to spiritual dryness.
Psalm 39:6We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it.
Ecclesiastes 4:7-8I observed yet another example of something meaningless under the sun. This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself, “Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing.
The busyness of life can crowd out time for spiritual refreshment and cause dryness of our soul.
