How did Jesus model solitude?
Matthew 14:13-14As soon as Jesus heard the news, he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone. But the crowds heard where he was headed and followed on foot from many towns. Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
Matthew 14:23After sending them home, he [Jesus] went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.
Luke 5:16Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.
Jesus regularly took time to be on his own with his Father. He described these as times of prayer. This included occasions when he was confronted with bad news, such as the death of John the Baptist (Matthew 14). Jesus appreciated the company of others, but he relished time alone with his Father.
