What does it mean to be a servant?
Philippians 2:6-8Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
A servant is humble and obedient to God.
Matthew 20:26-28“But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
A servant ministers to others regardless of their status in life.
John 13:5Then he [Jesus] began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.
A servant gladly performs tasks that others consider beneath them, and doesn’t even wait to be asked.
Romans 6:13Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.
True servants use all their energy and talents for the benefit of God and others.
