With so much instability in the world, how can my faith help me feel secure?
Psalm 125:1Those who trust in the Lord are as secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever.
Proverbs 1:33“All who listen to me [Wisdom] will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.”
Matthew 7:24“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.”
When we build our faith day by day on the truths of God’s Word, we have built a solid foundation that will not easily crack under the world’s pressures. Upon that foundation, we begin building our place in the world. When life’s battles come our way, some may be strong enough to knock down some walls, but our foundation will remain strong, steady and not easily moved, because God’s truths are eternal. A secure foundation gives us greater courage to face whatever troubles might come our way.
Psalm 40:2He [the Lord] lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.
When our faith remembers what God has done and is doing, it has reasons to look forward to what God can and will do in the future.
Psalm 3:3You, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.
Psalm 9:9-10The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you.
Psalm 46:1-3God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!
Psalm 57:1Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until the danger passes by.
Psalm 63:8I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely.
Proverbs 14:26Those who fear the Lord are secure; he will be a refuge for their children.
Proverbs 18:10The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.
No matter how much the battles and storms of life batter us, we are eternally secure when we put our faith in God. Nothing can ever separate us from God’s eternal presence and security.
