How can I continue to be productive in my retirement years?
Hebrews 6:11-12Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.
To be productive in our retirement years, we should continue to love others.
2 Peter 1:5-9In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.
To be productive in our retirement years, we should continue to grow and learn spiritually.
Psalm 92:12-15The godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house. They flourish in the courts of our God. Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green. They will declare, “The Lord is just! He is my rock! There is no evil in him!”
Titus 2:1-4As for you, Titus, promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching. Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience. Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good. These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children.
To be productive in our retirement years, we should live godly lives and teach others to do the same.
Numbers 8:24-26“This is the rule the Levites must follow: They must begin serving in the Tabernacle at the age of twenty-five, and they must retire at the age of fifty. After retirement they may assist their fellow Levites by serving as guards at the Tabernacle, but they may not officiate in the service. This is how you must assign duties to the Levites.”
1 Corinthians 12:5There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord.
Colossians 3:24Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.
To be productive in our retirement years, we should be flexible to changes in our roles as we continue to serve the Lord.
Proverbs 3:27Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.
Romans 12:13When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.
1 Corinthians 12:7A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.
Titus 3:14Our people must learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others; then they will not be unproductive.
1 Peter 4:11Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever!
To be productive in our retirement years, we should help others with all our God-given strength and energy.
Job 12:12-13“Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old. But true wisdom and power are found in God; counsel and understanding are his.”
Proverbs 20:29The glory of the young is their strength; the gray hair of experience is the splendor of the old.
To be productive in our retirement years, we should use our experience, wisdom, and understanding as gifts from God to help others.
