How can I best transition to retirement?

Proverbs 17:6Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are the pride of their children.

Isaiah 46:4“I will be your God throughout your lifetime—until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.”

We can best transition to retirement by remembering that the most important aspects of life continue through retirement—relationships—and we should nurture those. Our relationship with God should continue to grow as we age. And focusing on other valued relationships when more time is available can make our golden years truly golden.

Proverbs 16:31Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained by living a godly life.

Recognizing the benefits of a godly life can help you grow older gracefully.

Numbers 20:26“There you will remove Aaron’s priestly garments and put them on Eleazar, his son. Aaron will die there and join his ancestors.”

We can best transition to retirement by planning for a successor.

Ecclesiastes 6:1-2There is another serious tragedy I have seen under the sun, and it weighs heavily on humanity. God gives some people great wealth and honor and everything they could ever want, but then he doesn’t give them the chance to enjoy these things. They die, and someone else, even a stranger, ends up enjoying their wealth! This is meaningless—a sickening tragedy.

Realizing that we will eventually die, we should plan for the distribution of our inheritance to those we leave behind.
