Will God ever reject me?

John 4:10Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”

Jesus did not reject the Samaritan woman, but rather showed her acceptance by offering her living water. Jesus will never reject anyone who comes to him humbly and honestly, to be cleansed from sin.

John 8:1-11As he [Jesus] was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd. “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?” They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust. When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”

God rejects the sin without rejecting the sinner.

John 6:37“However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them.”

God accepts all who come to him in faith, even those who have previously rejected him.

Ephesians 3:12Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.

Hebrews 4:15-16This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

When we trust Christ as our Savior, we gain the privilege of approaching God directly, knowing that he gladly welcomes us and will always accept us. God will never say, “Sorry, I don’t have time for you” or “I’m busy.” He always listens, always hears, always responds, and always loves. Even at our weakest, he does not reject us but, rather, embraces us so we can receive the strength we need.

Job 13:21-24“Remove your heavy hand from me, and don’t terrify me with your awesome presence. Now summon me, and I will answer! Or let me speak to you, and you reply. Tell me, what have I done wrong? Show me my rebellion and my sin. Why do you turn away from me? Why do you treat me as your enemy?”

Isaiah 55:3, 6“Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David. . . . Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near.”

We should not misinterpret God’s silence as rejection. God may seem silent because we are too busy to hear him. Or perhaps he is being quiet so that we will draw closer to him in order to more fully experience his love and acceptance.
