How can we best use our prosperity in this life?

Deuteronomy 16:17“All must give as they are able, according to the blessings given to them by the Lord your God.”

Proverbs 3:9-10Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine.

Prosperity of any kind allows us the opportunity to deliberately turn away from the security it offers and to take such actions as demonstrate our dependence on God and gratitude for his provision. Through generosity, we set ourselves free from the prison of wealth and allow God to make use of what he’s entrusted to us for the good of his Kingdom.

Malachi 3:10“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!”

1 Corinthians 16:2On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned. Don’t wait until I get there and then try to collect it all at once.

We should honor God by supporting his work with generous giving.

Luke 12:33“Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it.”

Luke 16:9“Here’s the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home.”

2 Corinthians 9:9As the Scriptures say, “They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”

1 Timothy 6:9, 18-19People who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. . . . Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.

1 John 3:17If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?

We should be sensitive to the opportunities we have to generously meet the needs of others.

Luke 6:38“Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”

As followers of Jesus, we are called to invest our prosperity in the lives of others. When we willingly participate in God’s work through generous giving, we put ourselves in the place to receive even more of God’s provisions to share.
