What are some of the great promises of God?
John 3:16“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
John 8:12Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
John 11:25Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.”

God promises salvation to all who accept it. All the other promises of God, particularly those already fulfilled, bear witness to this one great offer in the gospel. Anyone who believes that Jesus died for their sins, then confesses those sins and is truly sorry for them, will be saved from the punishment they deserve. God looks at them as though they had never sinned, and will give them eternal life with him.
Luke 24:49“Now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”
John 14:15-17“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth.”

God promises to be with us forever in the personal presence of the Holy Spirit. The presence, work, fruit, and gifts of the Holy Spirit are all evidence of this kept promise.
Exodus 3:12God answered, “I will be with you. And this is your sign that I am the one who has sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God at this very mountain.”

God promises to be with us all the time. We can hold on to that promise especially in those times when our feelings, perceptions, and the enemy cause us to doubt God’s presence and power.
1 John 1:9If we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
God promises to forgive us whenever we do wrong, if we confess our sins to him. He promises that nothing we do is beyond the reach of God’s gracious forgiveness. But genuine confession cannot be a premeditated plan we put in place before we deliberately sin. That sort of confession isn’t genuine.
Psalm 85:8I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. But let them not return to their foolish ways.
John 14:27“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

God promises us peace of heart and mind when we fully trust him with our lives. He has promised his not-of-this-world peace to us, guaranteed by Jesus himself.
Psalm 4:3, 7You can be sure of this: The Lord set apart the godly for himself. The Lord will answer when I call to him. . . . You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine.
Psalm 16:11You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.
Psalm 126:5Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy.
Psalm 132:16I will clothe its priests with godliness; its faithful servants will sing for joy.

God promises us his joy as we understand the significance of being his follower. The joy we experience in and through Christ will not be understandable to the world.

God promises to help us shoulder our burdens, but we must be willing to truly give them over to him. When we do, God promises rest for our souls. Others should be able to see the hope that permeates our lives.
Genesis 50:20“You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.”
Romans 8:28We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
2 Corinthians 4:17Our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!
God promises to use even the bad things that happen to us for good purposes. This includes evil done to us by others, as Joseph’s life illustrates. His trust in God’s promises allowed him to step back from hardship and assume God was working behind the scenes, even when there was no obvious evidence.
2 Peter 3:8-10You must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment.
God has promised that Jesus will come back to judge the world for its deeds. We may not understand his timing, but we will eventually realize that God did everything exactly as it should have been done.
Isaiah 45:23“I have sworn by my own name; I have spoken the truth, and I will never go back on my word: Every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will declare allegiance to me.”
Habakkuk 2:14As the waters fill the sea, the earth will be filled with an awareness of the glory of the Lord.

God has promised that in that final day the whole world will know of him and bow down before him. There will be universal acknowledgment, even by those who have rejected him, that Jesus is Lord.
John 5:29“And they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment.”
John 11:25-26Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die.”
1 Corinthians 15:50-57These dying bodies cannot inherit what will last forever. But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies. 2 Corinthians 4:14We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus, will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself together with you.
1 Thessalonians 4:16The Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves.
God has promised that all those who believe in him—living or dead—will be given new bodies that will never die.
Revelation 21:4“He [God] will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
God has promised eventual and eternal deliverance from all sorrow, suffering, and pain for all who believe in him.
John 14:1-6“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going. . . . I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
Hebrews 4:1-3God’s promise of entering his rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it. . . . For only we who believe can enter his rest. As for the others, God said, “In my anger I took an oath: ‘They will never enter my place of rest,’” even though this rest has been ready since he made the world.
1 John 2:24-25So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father. And in this fellowship we enjoy the eternal life he promised us.
God’s promise of eternal life has a present application in the way we live now. Those who believe in Jesus are already marked by the Holy Spirit as heirs of God’s Kingdom, though still living in this life on earth. That reality should create a hopeful confidence in all who followers of Jesus.
2 Timothy 1:1This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus. I have been sent out to tell others about the life he has promised through faith in Christ Jesus.
Titus 1:2This truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God—who does not lie—promised them before the world began.
Hebrews 12:26-28When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: “Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.” This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain. Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.
James 1:12God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
God has promise an eternal home in heaven for those who trust in Jesus and acknowledge him as Lord. The unshakeable Kingdom of God has been promised to all who believe; following death, it will become our everlasting possession.
