What are the benefits of having right priorities and the dangers of having wrong ones?

Psalm 128:1-4How joyful are those who fear the Lord—all who follow his ways! You will enjoy the fruit of your labor. How joyful and prosperous you will be! Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine, flourishing within your home. Your children will be like vigorous young olive trees as they sit around your table. That is the Lord’s blessing for those who fear him.

Proverbs 14:26Those who fear the Lord are secure; he will be a refuge for their children.

Matthew 6:33-34“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

The proper priorities bring lasting joy no matter what life brings. It will bring the deep satisfaction that comes with doing the right things, making a lasting impact, and pleasing God. Proper priorities are excellent vaccines and antidotes for worry. This extends to planning for tomorrow rather than worrying about it.

Psalm 127:1-2Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.

Wrong priorities can lead to useless activity and unproductive anxiety—both a fruitless waste of life. Busyness should always be evaluated by the grid of our priorities. Are the things you are busy doing actually worthy priorities?

Matthew 6:30-34“If God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Colossians 3:2Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

Eternity with God is our highest goal; therefore, everything we do today should be done to invest in eternity.
