How can I make peace with God?

Psalm 34:14Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

Romans 2:10There will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good.

Peace with God comes from living the way we have been created to live. This happens when we develop a relationship with our Creator and live by the standards he has written in his Word, the Bible. When we set aside our sinful lifestyles and work toward a godly lifestyle and loving others, we will experience God’s peace as our minds, hearts, and actions get into sync with his purposes for us.

Isaiah 26:3You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!

Peace comes from knowing God is in control of our lives. It is actually a bi-product of God’s presence with us. We begin by focusing our thoughts on God and what he is able to accomplish in our lives, instead of focusing on our problems or trying to generate peace by our own strength.

Psalm 37:11The lowly will possess the land and will live in peace and prosperity.

Humility before God brings peace because God blesses the humble. Those who are humble understand their place in relation to God and others. Humility gives us a realistic view of ourselves, balanced by the knowledge of how much God loves us.

Galatians 5:22-23The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Let the Holy Spirit fill and rule your life. The Holy Spirit will guide, teach, and comfort you. If you follow, learn, and listen, you will experience peace with God and peace in your life.

Psalm 119:165Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble.

Loving God’s Word and living by what it says will give you peace with the God who wrote it. And by trusting and obeying the God who created the world, you will receive the added gift of walking through life without stumbling.

Luke 2:14“Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”

We are expected to live in a way that pleases God. We often hear this verse read as if the angels at Jesus’ birth were declaring peace on earth in general, but the announcement immediately narrows the promise to those who are living in a way that pleases God.

Philippians 4:6-7Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Pray about everything. Prayer is indispensable to finding peace with God. Reflect on the fact that this peace is God’s peace (the peace of God), allowing you into his presence and outlook, which is ultimate security.
