Proverbs 12:25Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.

Proverbs 27:10Never abandon a friend—either yours or your father’s. When disaster strikes, you won’t have to ask your brother for assistance. It’s better to go to a neighbor than to a brother who lives far away.

Proverbs 27:17As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.

Proverbs 31:8Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed.

1 Corinthians 9:22When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.

Philippians 2:4Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

Titus 3:13-14Do everything you can to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos with their trip. See that they are given everything they need. Our people must learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others; then they will not be unproductive.

Hebrews 10:24Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.

1 Peter 5:12I have written and sent this short letter to you with the help of Silas, whom I commend to you as a faithful brother. My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that what you are experiencing is truly part of God’s grace for you. Stand firm in this grace.

To help those who feel overwhelmed, we need to be sensitive to them and what they are experiencing. Then our empathy for those who are overwhelmed will move us to help meet their emotional and physical needs both by our words and our deeds.
