In what ways does my disobedience hurt God? How does it hurt me?

Ezekiel 20:13-15“But the people of Israel rebelled against me, and they refused to obey my decrees there in the wilderness. They wouldn’t obey my regulations even though obedience would have given them life. They also violated my Sabbath days. So I threatened to pour out my fury on them, and I made plans to utterly consume them in the wilderness. But again I held back in order to protect the honor of my name before the nations who had seen my power in bringing Israel out of Egypt. But I took a solemn oath against them in the wilderness. I swore I would not bring them into the land I had given them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most beautiful place on earth.”

Titus 1:16Such people claim they know God, but they deny him by the way they live. They are detestable and disobedient, worthless for doing anything good.

When the Bible talks about disobedience, it means a consistent lifestyle of ignoring God and a regular habit of disregarding what God says is right. Disobedience hurts God because he wants to give us lives full of good things. Ignoring him means that we don’t care enough to know God or see what he has planned for us. Disobedience to God hurts us because when we disobey, we forfeit God’s best for us.

Ephesians 4:30Do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.

Disobedience to God causes him sorrow.
