In what ways does God want me to obey him? - Obedience - TouchPoints
Genesis 6:22So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him.
Deuteronomy 5:32So Moses told the people, “You must be careful to obey all the commands of the Lord your God, following his instructions in every detail.”
Matthew 5:18-19“I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.”
God wants us to do everything he asks of us. All of God’s commands are found in his word, the Bible. Obedience is not about generally following God’s commands or just following those instructions that suit us. True obedience means following every detail of God’s commands to the best of our abilities.
1 Samuel 15:22Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.”
Obedience to God begins with listening to what he says in his word.
Exodus 12:28So the people of Israel did just as the Lord had commanded through Moses and Aaron.
Romans 13:1Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.
Acts 4:19-20Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.”
Acts 5:29Peter and the apostles replied, “We must obey God rather than any human authority.”
Hebrews 13:17Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.
God expects us to obey our leaders, unless what they ask contradicts his word.
