What is love?

1 Corinthians 13:4-7Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

These famous verses are some of the most eloquent and accurate descriptions of love ever written. Love is a commitment and a choice of conduct that produces powerful feelings. If we practice the qualities and behaviors described in these verses, we will experience satisfaction and fulfillment beyond imagination.

John 15:13“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

1 John 3:16We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.

Jesus gave us the greatest example of love. Love is willing to sacrifice for the good of others, even to death.
