How can I know if and when I should exercise leadership?

Acts 1:23-25They nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. Then they all prayed, “O Lord, you know every heart. Show us which of these men you have chosen as an apostle to replace Judas in this ministry, for he has deserted us and gone where he belongs.”

The discernment of others can help us decide whether to take on a leadership role, but prayer should always guide the ultimate decision.

Deuteronomy 3:28“‘Commission Joshua and encourage and strengthen him, for he will lead the people across the Jordan. He will give them all the land you now see before you as their possession.’”

If we are commissioned to lead, we should lead.

Ezekiel 3:17“Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for Israel. Whenever you receive a message from me, warn people immediately.”

John 15:16“You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.”

We don’t need to have official positions to lead, but God’s calling is essential.
