What are the consequences of laziness?

Proverbs 10:4Lazy people are soon poor; hard workers get rich.

Proverbs 13:4Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper.

Proverbs 15:19A lazy person’s way is blocked with briers, but the path of the upright is an open highway.

Proverbs 24:30-34I walked by the field of a lazy person, the vineyard of one with no common sense. I saw that it was overgrown with nettles. It was covered with weeds, and its walls were broken down. Then as I looked and thought about it, I learned this lesson: A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.

The Bible says that laziness brings trouble to our lives. Those who work hard are alert and prepare for coming troubles. But the lazy people are always at risk because they can neither see trouble coming nor are they prepared to face it.

Proverbs 12:24Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave.

The lazy lose control of their lives and destiny.

Proverbs 18:9A lazy person is as bad as someone who destroys things.

Proverbs 20:4Those too lazy to plow in the right season will have no food at the harvest.

2 Thessalonians 3:10While we were with you, we gave you this command: “Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.”

Laziness leads to a lack of necessities. The failure to produce is as bad as wasting what is produced. In both cases, resources are unavailable when we need them.

Proverbs 21:25-26Despite their desires, the lazy will come to ruin, for their hands refuse to work. Some people are always greedy for more, but the godly love to give!

Desire without action produces frustration and futility. The irony of laziness is that it heightens unmet desires yet fails to motivate us to action.
