Why does a loving, sovereign God allow injustice?

2 Chronicles 19:7“Fear the Lord and judge with integrity, for the Lord our God does not tolerate perverted justice, partiality, or the taking of bribes.”

Psalm 9:16The Lord is known for his justice. The wicked are trapped by their own deeds.

Proverbs 6:16-19There are six things the Lord hates—no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.

Proverbs 17:15Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent—both are detestable to the Lord.

Isaiah 59:14-15Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. Yes, truth is gone, and anyone who renounces evil is attacked. The Lord looked and was displeased to find there was no justice.

Lamentations 3:36If they twist justice in the courts—doesn’t the Lord see all these things?

Ezekiel 9:9-10Then he said to me, “The sins of the people of Israel and Judah are very, very great. The entire land is full of murder; the city is filled with injustice. They are saying, ‘The Lord doesn’t see it! The Lord has abandoned the land!’ So I will not spare them or have any pity on them. I will fully repay them for all they have done.”

Amos 5:12I know the vast number of your sins and the depth of your rebellions. You oppress good people by taking bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts.

Micah 2:1-3What sorrow awaits you who lie awake at night, thinking up evil plans. . . . But this is what the Lord says: “I will reward your evil with evil; you won’t be able to pull your neck out of the noose. You will no longer walk around proudly, for it will be a terrible time.”

Habakkuk 1:2, 13How long, O Lord, must I call for help? But you do not listen! “Violence is everywhere!” I cry, but you do not come to save. . . . But you are pure and cannot stand the sight of evil. Will you wink at their treachery? Should you be silent while the wicked swallow up people more righteous than they?

Malachi 2:17You have wearied the Lord with your words. “How have we wearied him?” you ask. You have wearied him by saying that all who do evil are good in the Lord’s sight, and he is pleased with them. You have wearied him by asking, “Where is the God of justice?”

Injustice happens because God created human beings with free will. Thus, we have the freedom to choose good or evil, right or wrong. Since the first people sinned, every person is born with a sin nature, causing us to rebel against God. This results in people treating others cruelly. Injustice comes from people, not God. And to think that God condones injustice simply because it happens is contrary to his righteous nature and opposed to what Scripture teaches about sin. God sees every injustice, and he judges it to be sin.
