Judges 3:5-7The people of Israel lived among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and they intermarried with them. Israelite sons married their daughters, and Israelite daughters were given in marriage to their sons. And the Israelites served their gods. The Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight. They forgot about the Lord their God, and they served the images of Baal and the Asherah poles.

To avoid falling into immorality, we must realize its subtlety and not let sin control our lives.

Proverbs 6:23-24Their [your father and mother’s] command is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life. It will keep you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of a promiscuous woman.

Ecclesiastes 7:26I discovered that a seductive woman is a trap more bitter than death. Her passion is a snare, and her soft hands are chains. Those who are pleasing to God will escape her, but sinners will be caught in her snare.

To avoid falling into immorality, we need to align our convictions about immorality with God’s vision for life. We are to please him by following his example and obeying his Word with our moral choices.

Marriage can be a help in avoiding immorality because it brings greater accountability into our lives and should redirect our thoughts from lustful passion to unselfish, loving passion.

Numbers 25:1-3While the Israelites were camped at Acacia Grove, some of the men defiled themselves by having sexual relations with local Moabite women. These women invited them to attend sacrifices to their gods, so the Israelites feasted with them and worshiped the gods of Moab. In this way, Israel joined in the worship of Baal of Peor, causing the Lord’s anger to blaze against his people.

2 Timothy 2:22Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.

We can avoid falling into immorality by watching the company we keep. The more time spent with immoral people, the greater the chances of following in their behavior.
