Genesis 3:6The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.

Proverbs 9:16-18“Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says, “Stolen water is refreshing; food eaten in secret tastes the best!” But little do they know that the dead are there. Her guests are in the depths of the grave.

Proverbs 25:16Do you like honey? Don’t eat too much, or it will make you sick!

James 1:17Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

Satan often tries to convince us that God is withholding good things from us. He tells us that if we leave the boundaries God has given, we will fulfill our hunger. While sinful self-indulgence may bring pleasure for a time, its consequences will be long and painful. Ultimately, God is the giver of all that is good, and he gives those good gifts when the time is right.

Matthew 6:31-33“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

When we seek the Lord and order our lives according to his priorities, everything else falls into proper perspective. We can trust God to provide all we need.

Psalm 37:4-5Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.

Matthew 7:7“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.”

Faith does not mean inaction. The Lord invites us to earnestly pursue our godly desires. As we do, he promises to lead us into joy and satisfaction.
