To whom should I be hospitable?

Romans 12:13When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.

We should always show hospitality to other believers. After all, they are part of our heavenly family!

3 John 1:5Dear friend, you are being faithful to God when you care for the traveling teachers who pass through, even though they are strangers to you.

We should be hospitable to those in ministry, who are often in need of hospitality.

Hebrews 13:2Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!

We should even offer hospitality to strangers.

Isaiah 58:7Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.

We should be hospitable to the hungry, poor, and needy, including our relatives.

Luke 14:12-14Then he turned to his host. “When you put on a luncheon or a banquet,” he said, “don’t invite your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. For they will invite you back, and that will be your only reward. Instead, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. Then at the resurrection of the righteous, God will reward you for inviting those who could not repay you.”

Gaining social standing is not the purpose of hospitality. True hospitality is offered as a gift to bless others—especially those who need it most.
