What is the source of my hope?

Psalm 39:7So, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.

Psalm 71:5O Lord, you alone are my hope. I’ve trusted you, O Lord, from childhood.

God himself is our source of greatest hope. When we trust him with our present and our future, hope begins to grow.

1 Peter 1:21Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory.

The Resurrection, the greatest event in history, is the foundation of our hope. Our hope of spending eternity with God should impact how we live each day.

John 16:33“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

2 Corinthians 4:16-18That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

1 Peter 1:3-6All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while.

Just as focusing on a fixed point in the distance helps us travel in a straighter line, we can fix our eyes on the eternity, where we will live with Jesus forever, free of pain, sorrow, or suffering. As we move straight toward our eternal goal, our hope for eternity makes us better able to endure the challenges and discomforts of daily life.
