In what ways does the Holy Spirit help me?

John 15:26“But I will send you the Advocate—the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me.”

1 Corinthians 2:12We have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.

The Holy Spirit helps us understand God and his deep truths.

Romans 8:6So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

2 Corinthians 3:16-18Whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

Galatians 5:16-17So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

Galatians 5:22-23The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

1 John 2:20You are not like that, for the Holy One has given you his Spirit, and all of you know the truth.

1 John 2:27You have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie.

Revelation 2:7“Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.”

The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, showing us right from wrong, good from bad, and God’s way versus the way of the world. Not only does the Holy Spirit show us what is good, he also fills us with a desire to do what is good.

Romans 8:26-27The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.

The Holy Spirit helps us to pray. We can take great comfort and confidence in the fact that our prayers—as inadequate as they often are—are heard, understood, and responded to through the loving intercession of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:19Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,

Ephesians 5:18-20Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit gives us the power and desire to resist temptations that would dishonor God or hurt us.

Romans 8:16His Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.

The Holy Spirit fills us with the assurance that we are children of God, saved from sin and death.
