How might fun connect me to God?

Genesis 1:27God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

The first humans—and all of us since Eden—were and are created in God’s image. Certainly, this image of God includes our sense of humor. So when we see the good and humorous in life, and when we laugh, sing, dance, and play, we reflect his image. Nowhere in Scripture does God condemn fun in general—just fun that is sinful and destructive (Exodus 20:14; Proverbs 24:9) and jokes that are coarse (Ephesians 5:4).

Ecclesiastes 2:24-25So I decided there is nothing better than to enjoy food and drink and to find satisfaction in work. Then I realized that these pleasures are from the hand of God. For who can eat or enjoy anything apart from him?

Ecclesiastes 3:12-13So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.

Because positive, righteous pleasures are “gifts from God,” we should thank him and enjoy them.

Colossians 3:17Whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

Even when we are having fun, being entertained, or just relaxing, we should make sure that these activities and events please God.
