Will I ever really finish my calling here on earth?

Ezra 10:4“Get up, for it is your duty to tell us how to proceed in setting things straight. We are behind you, so be strong and take action.”

Proverbs 24:27Do your planning and prepare your fields before building your house.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest.

During our lives, God gives us many tasks to accomplish, which may include helping people with critical needs, rearing children, serving for a term in a church position or on the mission field. Those assignments have end dates, and we should complete them and end them well.

Hebrews 12:1-3Since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.

God’s ultimate work for us on earth is to live fully for him for as long as we live, knowing that our ultimate reward awaits us after death—an eternity with him. Thus, our work on earth will only be finished when we die.
