Faith seems so complicated; how can I ever get it?
Mark 5:36Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.”
Too often we make faith difficult, but that wasn’t what Jesus intended. Faith isn’t complicated. It simply means trusting Jesus to do what he has promised.
Psalm 131:2Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself, like a weaned child who no longer cries for its mother’s milk. Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.
Matthew 7:9-11“You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.”
Mark 10:14-16When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.
Little children seem to attain faith easily. Children simply believe with calm assurance that their parents will provide and protect. We can have this same uncomplicated trust in God.
