How can I find more energy?

Ephesians 6:7Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

When we work as though we are doing it for the Lord, the work becomes more meaningful. Remembering that we are representatives of Christ through our work can inspire us to do whatever we do with more enthusiasm and energy. Even the most monotonous task can become a way to honor him.

Galatians 6:9Let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

Realizing that our efforts will be rewarded by God helps us work with sustained energy.

Philippians 3:13Dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,

We will have more energy for today and tomorrow if we don’t waste energy focusing on the past.

Ecclesiastes 10:10Using a dull ax requires great strength, so sharpen the blade. That’s the value of wisdom; it helps you succeed.

Wisdom energizes because it helps us discern the bigger perspective of what we are doing. Through wisdom, we can discern how to use our energy more efficiently.

Exodus 18:17-23“This is not good!” Moses’ father-in-law exclaimed. “You’re going to wear yourself out—and the people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself. Now listen to me, and let me give you a word of advice, and may God be with you. You should continue to be the people’s representative before God, bringing their disputes to him. Teach them God’s decrees, and give them his instructions. Show them how to conduct their lives. But select from all the people some capable, honest men who fear God and hate bribes. Appoint them as leaders over groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten. They should always be available to solve the people’s common disputes, but have them bring the major cases to you. Let the leaders decide the smaller matters themselves. They will help you carry the load, making the task easier for you. If you follow this advice, and if God commands you to do so, then you will be able to endure the pressures, and all these people will go home in peace.”

Listening to good advice equips us to work more efficiently and effectively. Accepting the help of others can lighten the load.

Genesis 1:5God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.

Genesis 2:2On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work.

Exodus 20:8-10“Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. For in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.”

Psalm 127:2It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.

Jeremiah 31:25“I have given rest to the weary and joy to the sorrowing.”

God didn’t make us to work all the time. Setting aside times of rest renews us mentally, emotionally, and physically, thus giving us more energy for the work ahead.

Matthew 6:25-27“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?”

Luke 12:25-27“Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.”

Isaiah 40:30-31Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Worry saps our energy. Trusting in God frees us to spend that energy on better things.

Mark 4:35-40As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

While the disciples wasted energy on fear and worry, Jesus rested, knowing his heavenly Father was in control. To truly rest, we must release our worries, trusting that God can keep the boat afloat without us.

Hebrews 12:11-12No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees.

When we are confident we are following God’s will, that confidence can rejuvenate us. Pleasing God energizes us.

Matthew 11:28-30Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Jesus invites us to come to him for rest from the weariness of life, strength for the burdens of life, and instruction for the puzzles and problems of life.

Philippians 4:13I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

We are limited, but knowing that Christ provides power and strength can help us endure life’s hardest trials, most difficult challenges, and toughest obstacles.
