Why is encouraging those I lead necessary?

1 Thessalonians 5:14Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.

Leaders can best motivate by encouragement, not embarrassment.

Deuteronomy 3:28“Instead, commission Joshua and encourage and strengthen him, for he will lead the people across the Jordan. He will give them all the land you now see before you as their possession.”

Leaders know that those who are struggling need the strength that comes from compassion and encouragement.

Hebrews 10:24Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.

Encouragement usually inspires people not only to do their best but also to be gracious, loving, and supporting to others.

2 Corinthians 13:11Dear brothers and sisters, I close my letter with these last words: Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.

Encouragement helps to create a relational environment where God’s Spirit can more easily work among and through us.
