How should we respond to areas of disobedience in our lives?

1 Samuel 13:12“So I said, ‘The Philistines are ready to march against us at Gilgal, and I haven’t even asked for the Lord’s help!’ So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering myself before you came.”

Ephesians 5:6Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him.

Any excuse for sin is never an appropriate response. When we try to excuse our sin, we have just made light of the glory of God, thus compounding our sin further.

Psalm 51:1-4Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight.

1 John 1:9If we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

Confession to God is always an appropriate response to areas of disobedience in our lives.

Deuteronomy 10:12-13“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul. And you must always obey the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good.”

Romans 4:7Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight.

We are to joyfully accept God’s forgiveness, and then commit ourselves to obeying him.
