What is dignity and where do we get it?
Genesis 1:27So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Psalm 8:5Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.
Psalm 62:7My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.
Isaiah 49:5Now the Lord speaks—the one who formed me in my mother’s womb to be his servant, who commissioned me to bring Israel back to him. The Lord has honored me, and my God has given me strength.
John 5:44“No wonder you can’t believe! For you gladly honor each other, but you don’t care about the honor that comes from the one who alone is God.”
2 Thessalonians 1:12Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Dignity is understanding who God made you to be—a human being who bears his image. In the eyes of the Creator, you have great worth and value and have been made for a special purpose. Your dignity comes not from what others think about you, but from the fact that God chose to create you and give you unique spiritual gifts and abilities. You have great worth in the eyes of God, and this should give you the confidence to boldly serve him wherever he leads you.
