How does God help us when we are defeated?

Romans 8:35-37Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? . . . No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

Psalm 34:18The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

Isaiah 41:10Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Acts 10:38You know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

Psalm 30:1I will exalt you, Lord, for you rescued me. You refused to let my enemies triumph over me.

Psalm 54:7You have rescued me from my troubles and helped me to triumph over my enemies.

God’s loving presence sustains, rescues, and heals the defeated. Sometimes we notice only our troubles and enemies. But when we recognize the presence of the God of Creation walking with us, we will not feel defeated.
