How can we be more decisive?

Psalm 25:4, 12Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. . . . Who are those who fear the Lord? He will show them the path they should choose.

Philippians 2:13God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

Start by asking God, the Creator of wisdom, to give you wisdom and perspective.

Psalm 86:11Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you.

Psalm 119:3They [the godly] do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in his paths.

Proverbs 3:6Seek his [the Lord’s] will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Proverbs 4:25-27Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.

Isaiah 50:7Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do his will. And I know that I will not be put to shame.

Actively seek God’s will and God’s ways, which are made clear in the Bible.

Proverbs 4:5Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them.

Romans 2:18You know what he wants; you know what is right because you have been taught his law.

Psalm 119:5-11Oh, that my actions would consistently reflect your decrees! Then I will not be ashamed when I compare my life with your commands. As I learn your righteous regulations, I will thank you by living as I should! I will obey your decrees. Please don’t give up on me! How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. I have tried hard to find you—don’t let me wander from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

We are to know God’s Word, which is from God, the source of all wisdom. Never make a decision that clearly contradicts a principle or command found in Scripture.

Psalm 119:8,57I will obey your decrees. Please don’t give up on me! . . . Lord, you are mine! I promise to obey your words!

Psalm 119:30I have chosen to be faithful; I have determined to live by your regulations.

Making the primary choices of obedience and faithfulness helps us make the daily secondary choices. Start by living out truth, and leave the rest to God.

Hebrews 11:8, 17-19It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. . . . It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, even though God had told him, “Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.” Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again. And in a sense, Abraham did receive his son back from the dead.

Having faith in God will help us be decisive because we know what the future holds.
