Why is commitment so hard?

Nehemiah 5:16I also devoted myself to working on the wall and refused to acquire any land. And I required all my servants to spend time working on the wall.

Commitment is never easy; it requires courageous perseverance and, sometimes, sacrifice. Nehemiah was committed to leading the work of rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem, even forgoing other goals. At times, it seemed that everything was working against him, but he persevered, and the wall was completed in record time.

Numbers 30:2“A man who makes a vow to the Lord or makes a pledge under oath must never break it. He must do exactly what he said he would do.”

Commitment can be hard because sometimes we change our minds and don’t want to follow through. However, the very nature of commitment is to do what we said we would do, even if it’s difficult.

2 Timothy 1:12[The Good News] is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.

Commitment is difficult because sometimes it means trusting God through trials and even when our circumstances don’t make sense. Paul was in prison, wishing he could be out traveling and preaching. But he was committed to God. He knew God was in control and would deliver on his promises.
