When will God offer me comfort?

Genesis 26:23-24From there Isaac moved to Beersheba, where the Lord appeared to him on the night of his arrival. “I am the God of your father, Abraham,” he said. “Do not be afraid, for I am with you and will bless you. I will multiply your descendants, and they will become a great nation. I will do this because of my promise to Abraham, my servant.”

Exodus 14:13Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today.”

Psalm 23:4Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

Psalm 145:14The Lord helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads.

Isaiah 41:10“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

Matthew 5:4“God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

Matthew 11:28Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

God will comfort you when you grieve, when you are overwhelmed, and when you face danger and uncertainty.

Matthew 5:11“God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers.”

Luke 6:22-23“What blessings await you when people hate you and exclude you and mock you and curse you as evil because you follow the Son of Man. When that happens, be happy! Yes, leap for joy! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, their ancestors treated the ancient prophets that same way.”

Romans 8:35, 37-39Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? . . . No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.

God will comfort you when you are persecuted.

Psalm 27:10Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.

Isaiah 53:3, 11He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. . . . When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins.

Hebrews 13:5God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”

The Lord will comfort you when you are rejected because he, too, was rejected.

Psalm 138:3As soon as I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me strength.

God will comfort you when you pray.
