How can I help someone who is depressed at Christmas?
John 1:5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
Galatians 6:2Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.
John 8:12Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
John 12:46“I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.”
Matthew 11:28Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
Caring for a loved one who is struggling can feel heavy, but Jesus invites you to come to Him too. He will carry your burdens and give you the rest and strength you need to support those you love.
Romans 8:38-39And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow-not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below-indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
When a loved one is struggling with depression, it’s easy to feel helpless. But this verse reminds us of a powerful truth—nothing can separate them from God’s love. Not fear, not despair, not even the darkest days. Christ’s love holds them securely, even when they can’t feel it. This verse provides comfort and hope as we pray for them.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.
Psalm 34:18The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
Matthew 5:4“God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
Romans 12:15Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep.
Sit with your loved one, listen, and pray for God’s peace together. Encourage them to seek professional help if needed. Offer practical support—like baking, decorating, or offering to take their kids to a Christmas play or look at lights. A simple act of kindness goes a long way.
