How do I become like Christ?

2 Corinthians 3:18So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

Ephesians 4:15Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.

Philippians 1:6I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

God is always at work through the Holy Spirit within you to make you more like Christ. You join in this process when you carefully study Scripture to learn how Christ lived and loved, and endeavor to follow him. You won’t become Christlike overnight; instead, that work continues throughout your lifetime, until Christ returns.

1 Corinthians 1:2He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus, just as he did for all people everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours.

1 Corinthians 6:11You were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

You are made more like Christ simply by believing in him. You become his beloved child, filled with his Spirit, and are set on a path to Christlikeness.

John 17:17“Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.”

You grow in Christlikeness by constantly learning the truths of the Bible and living by them.

2 Corinthians 7:1Let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.

You become more Christlike by working hard to keep sin out of your life.

Romans 12:1-2And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

On your own, you can’t cultivate a Christlike spirit because of your sinfulness. You become more like Christ when you give yourself fully to Christ, like a living sacrifice. Then you have the strength to turn away from the world and toward Christ, letting him show you his good, pleasing, and perfect will for you.
