What did Jesus think of children?
Matthew 18:2-6Jesus called a little child to him. . . . Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.”
Entering heaven and greatness in heaven are keyed to childlikeness (which is not “childishness”). To be childlike is to experience simply joy and wonder, to trust that God wants what is best for you, and to be excited about all that God has promised. Jesus thought childhood extremely important to attach such significance to it.
Mark 10:16Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.
Jesus wanted to make it clear that children are special in his eyes. He blessed them as if they were his own. If Jesus had such a high regard for all children, shouldn’t we also have a high regard for them?
