How has God promised to bless his people?

Numbers 6:22-27The Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israel with this special blessing: ‘May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.’ Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in my name, I myself will bless them.”

Often called the “Aaronic blessing,” this prayer for God’s goodness to be poured out on people’s lives has stood the test of time. It quiets our hearts and calls us into humble dependence on God. Not only did God provide the words of this blessing, but he also promised that when it was used over the people of Israel, he would follow through by pouring out his goodness.

Ephesians 1:2, 13-14May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. . . . When you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people.

God’s love is like a vast ocean with wave after wave of blessings flowing over us. Like the constant movement of the ocean, God’s blessings never cease, whether we are aware of them or not. Scripture is full of blessings God has promised to those who love him, including his presence, truth, mercy, grace, and peace. He has also given us his Holy Spirit, who opens our eyes to see hundreds of blessings that surround us every day and guarantees that God will give us everything he has promised.

Jeremiah 17:7“Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.”

We are tempted to base our hope and confidence on worldly circumstances, such as a good job or financial security. None of these is eternal. And they cannot compare to the promises that we have in God, the Creator of heaven and earth. Put your hope where it will not and cannot be shaken.
